Game Recap
🏆 Player of the Game: Tarik Skubal — He anchored a Detroit staff that fanned 14 and allowed zero earned runs across 10 innings.
Detroit outlasted San Francisco 3-1 in 10 innings, riding a dominant pitching performance and a two-run burst in the extra frame.
For five and a half innings, neither side could crack the scoreboard. The Tigers finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth, pushing across a single run, but the Giants answered in the seventh with a run of their own to level the game at 1-1 and force free baseball.
Detroit's staff was the story. Tigers pitchers piled up 14 strikeouts, scattered seven hits and walked just two while allowing zero earned runs — the lone San Francisco tally was unearned, the byproduct of a Detroit error. The Giants' bullpen and rotation held up their end for much of the night as well, striking out seven and limiting Detroit to six hits, but the tenth inning proved decisive as the Tigers plated two runs to take the lead for good.
Neither offense found much rhythm. Detroit hit .171 as a team on the night, San Francisco .200, and neither club managed a home run. Each side drew exactly two walks, and each committed one error. In a game defined by swings and misses — 21 combined strikeouts — Detroit simply did the little things better when it mattered most.
